Good accommodation. It's basic but that's reflected in the price. Lovely village with a riverside walk to the delights of Durham. If you are on a budget then this is a good choice and there's breakfast.

Really lovely family room - quite spacious. Hotel itself is in a great wee spot with ample parking at the back. Close to village and only 2 miles from the city centre - gorgeous walk round the river from Shincliffe. It’s not fully open in terms of offering food (continental breakfast only) but will be reopening in a couple of weeks apparently. While clean and comfortable rooms may need a bit of TLC and updating. Sadly the WiFi didn’t work and we struggled with phone signal, but as it was a leisure break, this wasn’t critical. Lovely, friendly staff.

We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights for the family to attend my son's graduation, months ago, as we new accommodation would be busy. We'd stayed here back in June and enjoyed the warm, friendly village pub atmosphere, and thought it would be convenient for breakfast and dinner in the restaurant without having to travel. A couple of days before travelling, after Hotels.com took our payment, and too late to cancel of course, we were informed there was self-check-in and the restaurant was closed! In fact the pub was closed - only the rooms were still open! This was very crafty of Hotels.com not to inform us as soon as the pub closed (landlord had left), to give us a chance to re-arrange! The price did no longer reflect the facilities - Air BnB would have been better! Only slight redemption was that there was a continental breakfast available. Rooms were serviced and acceptable but shame on you Hotels.com!
