Stay information

Rich in original character and traditional charm, this cozy 19th-century country inn offers good beers, affordable food and comfortable rooms with private bathrooms in the converted former stable block. Originally built in 1866, the Duke of Wellington was once a working farm and an inn for drovers. Traditionally built from Derbyshire limestone, the pub has a slate roof, roaring log fires and extensive gardens. Free wireless internet access is available in the bar. There are 9 rooms with private bathrooms in the beautifully converted stable block. Set away from the main building, the rooms offer comfort and privacy. The stable block has its own flagstone courtyard and free private parking is available on site. All rooms have TVs and tea/coffee making facilities. Recently redecorated in a traditional country style, the inn boasts extensive floral gardens with comfortable seating areas. There is also a fully enclosed and heated patio area, overlooking Riber Castle and the Derwent Valley.

Room was reasonable but some mould in bathroom and a damp patch on floor maybe a leak from bathroom. Television didn’t work during the whole stay which was a little disappointing. However the breakfast was fabulous.

The rooms are in an out-building which is fine but our room wasn't in good condition at all. There was a lot of fresh black mold on the walls around the door (that I had to wipe down myself). There was also black mold higher up out of reach on the walls and ceiling. There was no curtain, just a blind that was missing the adjuster to close the blinds. The main room was very very basic. In the bathroom the bath was in a bad condition with it almost rotting away along the seals and the was a massive crack in the sink which actually later dropped out leaving a hole in the sink. The bed was comfy enough and actually slept well but expected much better for the money. Service on arrival was good so no complaints there but as we left early there was no one there to really express the dissatisfaction.
