We had a nice trip overall, but to give our opinion my wife and I would rate this hotel at a solid 7.8 While it is a nice nostalgic old hotel there were a few things we were not thrilled about. We feel you should not put older guests on the second floor of The Palace side. There is no elevator and the stairs are quite difficult for us to haul our luggage up and down. We were not offered assistance. We both got real tired of navigating the stairs. I also ended up fixing the running toilet on my own as the maintenance staff was gone for the day after we checked in. The breakfast is similar to other 2-3 star hotels. (Quite average). The location is great and walkable to restaurants and shopping. The trains nearby are nostalgic. We are not quite sure the pricing for three nights was worth the convenience of the location.

The room was satisfactory. It was clean and well-stocked. Unfortunately, some of the chairs, the foam padding is sticking through the upholstery. There was a water machine and an ice machine right in front of the room, which made it convenient. The room was also just off the outside patio, so you had access to the building from both the front and the rear. It was above the nice Italian restaurant that shares the same building. The unfortunate part is that you are in a building down the street from the original hotel. It’s called the palace wing. It would be more accurate to call it the brothel wing and decorate it as a boudoir. There is nothing palace about it and you lose the complete ambience and feeling that you are expecting from being in the original General Palmer Hotel. it feels like a bait and switch. You are told that you will be climbing up two flights of stairs, which we were aware of and we’re OK with, but we weren’t told it was in a separate building down the street from the original grand hotel. This was quite a disappointment. The outside patio is nice but worn and could use an updating of patio furniture the walls in the room are slightly thin and you can’t hear people speaking through the walls which is an awful you expect this in an older hotel. The staff are exceptional very knowledgeable great tour directors. The lobby is absolutely beautiful. There is plenty of lovely seating areas, but these are located in the original hotel building not in the wing
